We are excited to announce the second major release of the new 6 Series! The great news is that it now supports IE10, has improved CSS and template support, allows for different toolbars to be assigned to different areas of your website, even more robust thanks to its new database checks and now comes with a brand-new set of documentation allowing you to take your editing experience to a whole new level!

Support for IE 10

Until very recently, IE10 was only available for Windows 8, clearly the focus of development for Microsoft over the last year. But now the hundreds of millions of Windows 7 users can enjoy the new browser's superior speed and standards support.

We are delighted to inform you that we have made way for the future with new support for IE10 standard mode. This means that whether you are on the move with your tablet, at work using IE7 or have recently upgraded to Windows 8, you can still take advantage of the editors beautiful and powerful editing tools.

Custom Toolbar Assignment

In some deployments you may want to use a different toolbar, with a different set of icons for a specific part of your website. For instance you may want to use the 'blog' toolbar for your blogging component while having a more advanced 'editorial' toolbar for the rest of your site. The good news is that you can now do this by selecting the new ‘Component Assignment’ tab or by editing the 'Advanced Options' box in Joomla 2.5.

Bespoke style options for the editor’s Dropdown box

Until this point there hasn’t been an editor capable of separating out what style-sheets are doing what in the editing area. This can result in a long list of styles being populated in the 'Styles' dropdown box which could impede the user’s workflow.

But now, thanks to version 6.1 you can use a general template style-sheet for your editing area (i.e. template.css) and a different style-sheet specifically for the editor’s ‘Styles’ dropdown box (i.e. typography). In this way you can custom tailor the workflow of the ‘Styles’ dropdown box by providing your users with beautiful tooltips, icons, object styles (images, objects, tables etc..) all available at your users fingertips.

Improved documentation and even better support

There is still so much in the editor that people don’t know about, so we’ve taken some active steps to detail and tell you about it! That’s why we have:

Rewritten our documentations to be more informative, with more screen-shots, with better insight into how you can best setup the editor to work with your websites.
Updated the (Help) Links button in our component so that you can get the help you need when you need it.
And have added a new welcome screen to the setup wizards, linking to a helpful step-by-step guide, so now you are better equipped to circumvent problems and maximise the editor’s potential.
