Does anyone know how to use the visual editor to apply a CSS class to the <table> tag??

I've tried highlighting the table but the editor will enter an empty paragraph in each cell with the class I've selected.

I'd like to have a few color themes for tables that set the border width, color and padding for the cells in a table. In other editors I've seen the option to select a class when you create the table initially but I can't seem to find that optionin JoomlaCK.
